Rescue dog Brodie, Azawakh, a breed similar to a greyhound, has an extremely long neck and looks almost like a giraffe, but new owner Louisa Crook said he’s ‘the most beautiful dog’
A woman said her life was changed when she rescued a dog with a ‘giraffe neck’ that taught her how to hope again – as her new pet pooch had survived ‘hell’ and came out smiling.
Brodie is an Azawakh, which is a breed similar to a greyhound or whippet, and he was rescued by Louisa Crook as a puppy after he was hit by a car and then neglected.
After the incident, Brodie had to have one front leg and shoulder amputated which accentuated his already long neck, which is a trait of the breed.
Louisa shared a video of her pet pooch online and said that he’s the ‘most beautiful dog’ she has ever laid eyes on and that she loves him for his unique features.
Marketing Consultant Louisa, from the Middle East, said: “I have a very special bond with Brodie. He has always seemed so grateful for his new life after leaving the hell that (he was in) after his car accident.
“He is incredibly sweet to me. He loves early mornings in the kitchen with me when none of my other dogs are awake and he gets me all to himself. He is the only morning person I have in my life.
“People always ask what he is when they see him. Not too many people know the breed. And then of course, what happened to him that he lost a leg. Mostly, people love his freckles.
“From Brodie, I definitely learnt not to give up so easily. I was so certain there was no hope and got so close to calling it for him. I shudder to think of it now seeing how he thrived.
“It is something that has helped me with other dogs that have come into my life, some of them in similar or worse shape than Brodie.
“Brodie is the dog I look to when I need to stop feeling sorry for myself. I will never have it as bad as he had it and he got through it all like it was nothing and with a smile on his face.”
“Brodie is absolutely the most beautiful dog I think I will ever lay eyes on. I’m a sighthound fan and Azawakhs are one of my favourite breeds.
“Even in the state Brodie was in when I first saw him – unable to walk and in such pain – he still took my breath away.
“I had never seen an Azawakh in the flesh before then as they are not a common breed.
“He does have a very long neck, but it looks ridiculously long from certain angles because his missing shoulder makes him slimmer at the base of his neck.
“So sometimes it looks like he is just one big neck with legs attached, albeit only three of them.”
